Membership in the Heart O' Texas Orchid Society is open to anyone interested in orchids.
Joining our Society provides you the opportunity to:
Interests of our members vary widely. Some grow "just for fun", while others grow one or two orchids and simply love looking at the wide array of plants. Some study the botanical aspects of the more than 35,000 species. Some are serious hybridizers, while others study the various trends of hybridization. Others are both scholars of orchids and dedicated to improving the quality of cultivated orchids as American Orchid Society Judges.
Our monthly meetings are fun and exciting! Most months, we have a different speaker or special guest who provides all of us with valuable information on how to be successful orchid growers and hobbyists. Meetings are typically held on the FIRST TUESDAY of every month at the Zilker Botanical Garden Center in Austin, Texas. We hold a fall plant auction and a spring and fall greenhouse tour, as well as summer and winter Pot Luck get together. We currently hold a spring Orchid Show and New Growers Seminar. There are many opportunities to assist with these events and meet your fellow members.
As a member of the Heart O' Texas Orchid Society, you are also a member of the Southwest Regional Orchid Growers Association (SWROGA). SWROGA consists of members of local orchid societies from seven states: Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas. You will receive news from the orchid societies in SWROGA News that is either e-mailed or sent out four times a year, your choice.
